Trine Announces Division III Week Activities

Trine Announces Division III Week Activities

ANGOLA, Ind.—Trine University will host several special events on campus to celebrate NCAA Division III Week, April 3-8.

Highlighting the week will be the Trine Tailgate centered on a baseball doubleheader Friday, April 7. The event will feature a tailgate dinner courtesy Bon Appetit and free t-shirts. Dinner will be served from 4 - 6 p.m. and Sunset Slush Angola will be in attendance. Free hats will be available for 350 fans at 4 p.m. A Trine hockey jersey will be raffled off during dinner.

The event will be held in the parking lot adjacent to Jannen Field and Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center. Activities and games, including Kan Jam and Spike Ball, will be set up adjacent to the baseball field and parking lot. Games and activities will begin in conjunction with the start of the baseball doubleheader at 2 p.m.

The week begins with Munchie Madness and the Division III Week Kick-off in Whitney Commons, an opportunity to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship game. The event will feature free snack food, free t-shirts and a limited number of free hats for those staying to watch the game. A Trine hockey jersey will be raffled off during the event.

Student-athletes will show team pride Tuesday when they wear team apparel to class. Thunder student-athletes make up approximately 40 percent of the student body on main campus. The Thunder baseball team takes on Heidelberg at 4 p.m.

Student-athletes will also participate in campus-wide cleanup efforts on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Student-athletes will help the Trine grounds crew perform landscaping and maintenance work in preparation for the spring season.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in question of the day trivia on social media to win a $30 gift card to the Trine University Bookstore. A question will be posted on Twitter at noon Monday-Thursday. A student who answers the question correctly will be randomly selected to win the gift card courtesy of the Trine Office of Student Services.

Division III week will also feature special displays on campus monitors highlighting the academic and athletic accomplishments of Trine student-athletes.

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on campus and in the surrounding community.

Division III is the NCAA's largest division, with 448 member institutions making up 40 percent of the NCAA's total membership. More than 180,000 student-athletes compete as members of Division III athletic teams. On average, Division III institutions sponsor 18 sports.

Student-athletes do not receive athletic scholarships at the Division III level. NCAA Division III promotes athletic experience, academic accomplishment and leadership/community involvement as part of its founding principles.
