ANGOLA, Ind. - After more than a year of planning and construction, Trine University dedicated its new hockey facility Thursday night.

University officials, alumni, donors and Steuben County community leaders attended the dedication as part of homecoming week festivities.

The 46,000-sq. ft. facility will serve as home ice for the new men's and women's hockey programs, which drop the puck on their inaugural seasons next week. Thunder Ice Arena includes an NCAA-compliant ice rink, seating for 700 people, multiple locker rooms, weight rooms, press box, training rooms, concession stands, pro shop, VIP lounge and skate rental area.

Trine officials announced plans for the arena in April of 2016. The project cost about $7.5 million. Construction started last November.

Thunder Ice Arena will also host club, school and other youth hockey leagues. Open skates sessions will also be offered at certain times.
