Thunder Student-Athletes and Teams Honored by MIAA for Academic Achievement

FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the 2017-18 MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the 2017-18 MIAA Team GPA Award. Trine University finished off the school year with an increased representation on both lists.

The MIAA Team GPA Award is presented to member athletic teams that achieve a 3.3 or better GPA for an academic year. Women's tennis led the way for Thunder teams on the list finishing the year with a 3.657 GPA, with women's volleyball coming in second with a 3.627 GPA.

All told 12 teams achieved the award for Trine this year, including women's golf and softball who did not receive the award last year. A list of all the Thunder teams receiving the award can be found at the bottom of this article. For the conference-wide list of the award recipients check out the MIAA's full release.

Trine also increased their membership on the 2017-18 MIAA Academic Honor Roll by 27 student-athletes. To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year while also earning a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport.

This year 157 Thunder student-athletes were recognized by the MIAA for their excellence in the classroom. To see how other schools in the MIAA did and for a complete list of those student-athletes who were honored check out the MIAA's full release.
