US Olympic Rugby 7s defeats Kenya, Ireland

The United States men's rugby 7s team has defeated Kenya and Ireland in pool play at the Tokyo Olympics.

Trine University alumnus Joe Schroeder started both games for the team but did not score.

In the first game, the US rallied back at the end of the second half to defeat Kenya 19-14, with Madison Hughes scoring late and Steve Tomasin making the conversion.

In the second game, the US took a 12-0 lead before Ireland came back to cut the deficit to 12-5 at the half. The US held on in the second half to win 19-12.

The team closes out pool play against South Africa, which is also 2-0 after defeating Ireland 33-14 and Kenya 14-5. The game begins at 10:30 p.m. EDT today (Monday). Streaming is available from NBC.
