Trine finishes Third in MIAA Commissioner's Cup Standings

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's athletic programs placed third in the MIAA Commissioner's Cup, based on team's finishes in conference play this school year.

The MIAA Commissioner’s Cup award is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league's 20 sports for men and women. The final Commissioner’s Cup standings are determined on the basis of each college's standings in eight of ten sports for men and eight of ten sports for women. This year marked the first year of a new scoring formula for the Commissioner's Cup that awarded the same number of points for the MIAA champion in each sport, regardless of gender.

With one conference championship and four second-place finishes, Thunder teams earned the school 92 points in the Cup standings.

The Trine softball team notched the lone conference title this season, finishing the season 15-1 for their fourth-consecutive MIAA title. The Thunder made its eighth-consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance and was ranked as high as fifth in the nation during the regular-season.

The men's track and field and men's golf teams each finished with outright second-place finishes. The finish was the best MIAA placing ever for the Thunder men's track and field team. The men's golf team battled eventual league-champion Hope tough throughout the fall into the the spring automatic-qualifying tournament.

The football and men's basketball teams each tied for second in the conference. The football team battled for the league championship into the final week of the season, while the men's basketball squad earned its first-ever home game in the MIAA Tournament.

The athletic year is drawing to a close, with just a handful of track and field student-athletes competing for invites to the national championships.
