Student-Athletes Participate in Campus Clean-up Efforts

ANGOLA, Ind. – Students of Trine University’s 21 athletic teams helped Trine grounds crew in cleaning up the university’s campus on April 6.

Numerous athletes were volunteered to take part in the campus cleanup as part of the 2016 NCAA Division III week. Trine has more than 600 athletes on campus who participate in the 21 athletic teams.

Athletes were asked to do maintenance work on Trine University’s Zollner Golf Course for this year’s campus cleanup. Some were assigned to the sand traps on the golf course, some the greens, and others the overall cleanup of the golf course.

Tasks involved raking, pulling weeds, shoveling, picking up fallen branches from trees or garbage, and other landscaping or maintenance work to the golf course.

“It’s about taking pride in my school,” said Kerry Raab, a sophomore on the Trine wrestling team, about the campus cleanup.  “It’s nice to give back to the program and school that has given me so much,”

Raab is majoring in criminal justice and is on track to graduate a year early. Upon graduation, he plans on going to law school.

“We appreciate the campus so much, so we don’t mind doing it and giving back,” said members of the women’s soccer team about the campus cleanup. “It shows we have pride in our school not just in our sport.”
