Trine Announces NCAA Division III Week Activities

ANGOLA, Ind.—Trine University will host several special events on campus to celebrate NCAA Division III Week, April 4-10.

Highlighting the week will be a community day centered on a softball doubleheader on Tuesday, April 5 as well has a big, campus-wide announcement Thursday, April 7.

The community day event will feature free hot dogs, free popcorn and free t-shirts, as well as Hawaiian Shaved Ice and elephant ear vendors. The promotions run from 3 – 7 p.m. The event will be held in conjunction with a key MIAA softball doubleheader between the 11th-ranked Thunder and Hope at 3:30 p.m.

The event will be held on the practice fields adjacent to SportONE/Parkview Softball Field, Jannen Field and Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.

Trine University will hold a press conference announcing a transformation that will change the future of the institution. The press conference will be held in the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts Thursday at 2 p.m. Students, alumni faculty, staff, friends and the community are invited to attend the press conference.

Student-athletes will show team pride Monday when they wear team apparel to class. Thunder student-athletes make up roughly 40 percent of the student body on main campus.

Student-athletes will also participate in campus-wide cleanup efforts on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Student-athletes will help the Trine grounds crew perform landscaping and maintenance work in preparation for the spring season.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in question of the day trivia on social media to win prizes. A question will be posted on Twitter at noon. A student who answers the question correctly will be randomly selected to win a prize courtesy of the Trine Office of Student Services.

Division III week will also feature special displays on campus monitors highlighting the academic and athletic accomplishments of Trine student-athletes.

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on campus and in the surrounding community.

Division III is the NCAA’s largest division, with 448 member institutions making up 40 percent of the NCAA’s total membership. More than 180,000 student-athletes compete as members of Division III athletic teams. On average, Division III institutions sponsor 18 sports.

Student-athletes do not receive athletic scholarships at the Division III level. NCAA Division III promotes athletic experience, academic accomplishment and leadership/community involvement as part of its founding principles.
