Trine to Host Special Events for NCAA Division III Week

ANGOLA, Ind.—Trine Thunder athletics has announced its plans for the nationwide celebration of National Collegiate Athletic Association NCAA Division III athletics from April 6-12.

Known as Division III week, it provides an opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the positive effects of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. Division III week includes various events on Trine University’s campus.

Tuesday, April 7

The SportONE/Parkview Softball Field will be dedicated with a ceremony at 2 p.m.  A free cookout will begin at 2:30 p.m. between the softball and baseball fields. Free hot dogs and refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy free food and maybe even a free T-shirt before cheering Thunder teams to victory.

After the ceremony is a MIAA-doubleheader between Calvin and Trine starting at 3:30 p.m. The Thunder softball team is currently ranked eighth in the nation.

Thunder baseball will compete in a non-conference doubleheader when it hosts Illinois Tech at 4 p.m. 

Throughout the day, students will share why they love Trine and Division III athletics with the hashtag #whyD3 and by tagging @trineuniversity on Instagram or @trineathletics on Twitter.

Wednesday, April 8

To help prep for three days of golf tournament action, there will be a campus-led cleanup at 4 p.m. at Zollner Golf Course.  Student-athletes will be leading the effort and everyone is encouraged to show their support by joining.

Trine men’s lacrosse will host a White Out-themed game against Alma at 7 p.m. All spectators are asked to wear white to the game.

Thursday, April 9

“Throwback Thursday” will be celebrated as fans, alumni and former student-athletes are encouraged to share photos from their athletic days at Trine or Tri-State using the hashtag #TrineTBT on social media and by tagging @trineathletics on Twitter or @trineuniversity on Instagram, or by posting on the Trine Thunder Athletics page on Facebook. Current Trine athletes will share photos of their throwback days in Little League, Pop Warner, YMCA, high school and more with the #TrineTBT hashtag as well.

Men’s golf will host the A.C. Eddy Invitational at 1 p.m., Zollner Golf Course.

Friday, April 10

Women’s golf will host the Trine Spring Classic at 1 p.m. at Zollner Golf Course. At least eight teams will participate in the only home tournament of the spring for the Thunder women.

Saturday, April 11

Women’s golf will host round two of the Trine Spring Classic at 1 p.m.

Thunder softball will host Case Western Reserve at 1 p.m.

Women’s lacrosse will host St. Mary’s at 1 p.m. During halftime, attendees will be invited to participate in a lacrosse-related contest.

Sunday, April 12

Baseball will host Olivet in an MIAA doubleheader at 1 p.m.
