ANGOLA, Ind.-- The upcoming week features postseason events for a pair of winter sports, as well as the beginning of spring seasons for several Trine Thunder teams. Take a look at the upcoming schedule and a preview of the week ahead.
Wednesday
CANCELLED- Men's Lacrosse: Trine vs. Beloit, 7 p.m. CST (8
EST) at Benedictine College
The season-opener between the Thunder at the Buccaneers has been
cancelled due to the forecast for frigid temperatures. More details
can be found HERE.
Thursday
MIAA Men's Basketball Semifinals: Hope at Trine, 7:30
p.m.
The two teams will meet in the postseason for the
third-consecutive year, with the Flying Dutchmen taking each of the
last two postseason meetings- both of which came at Hope. The two
teams finished in a tie for second in the MIAA standings. The
Thunder earned the tiebreak for home court advantage in the
Semifinals. Trine and Hope split the season series, with each team
winning on their home court. The Thunder will be seeking its first
ever trip to the MIAA Championship game.
Saturday
Wrestling: Trine at NCAA Division III Midwest Regional, 9
a.m.
The right to advance to the National Championships will be up for
grabs at Wabash College this Saturday, as the top three wrestlers
in each class will advance to the national stage. Thunder wrestlers
Brandon Preston and Mack Green each qualified for the national meet
last season. Green earned All-American Heavyweight honors last
season, while Preston is a two-time national qualifier.
Track and Field: Trine Indoor Championships, Noon
While not an official MIAA-sponsored meet this season, the Trine
Indoor Championships will feature every MIAA team that sponsors
indoor track and field. Both Thunder teams have contenders in
multiple events. Trine could have multiple performers solidify
their chances to compete in the National Championships with strong
performances this Saturday.
Men's Lacrosse: Trine at Augustana, 3 p.m. CST (4
EST)
The Thunder continue a three-game road swing to start the season.
The Vikings enter the week 0-1. Augustana finished last season
9-7.
MIAA Men's Basketball Championship: TBA, If Necessary, 7:30
p.m.
A win Thursday would give the Thunder men a trip to the MIAA
Championship game, where they would face either Calvin or Alma. The
game will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
Sunday
Baseball: Trine vs. Anna Maria, 12 p.m. in Winter Haven,
Fla.
The Thunder open their season with a doubleheader against the
Amcats, who finished last season 7-22 overall. Trine will be
looking to jumpstart a turnaround from last season's 14-26
campaign. The Thunder are led by All-MIAA first baseman Jordan
Baer. Other key returners to watch include second baseman Ethan
Prebynski and pitcher Eddie Tomich.
Softball: Trine vs. St. Mary's (Minn.), 1 p.m. in Clermont,
Fla.
The Thunder begin the season ranked sixth in the nation and
looking to build on the first National Championship appearance in
school-history last season. The two teams face off as part of the
Dot Richardson Spring Games. The Cardinals already have a sweep
under their belts this season. St. Mary's finished last season
14-18. Headlining Trine's returners are All-American center fielder
Carly Searles and MIAA Pitcher of the Year Bree Fuller.
Softball: Trine vs. Susquehanna, 3 p.m. in Clermont,
Fla.
This will be the second-consecutive season the two teams have
faced off in Florida. The Thunder won last season's meeting by a
5-3 final. The Crusaders finished last season with a 23-16
record.
