ANGOLA, Ind.-- Several Trine student-athletes will compete for National Championships in the upcoming week. Take a look at the upcoming schedule and a brief preview of the week ahead in Trine Thunder athletics.
Wednesday
Men's Tennis: Manchester at Trine, 3:30 p.m.
The spring season opens for the Thunder men as they host Manchester in a match that will likely be contested indoors. Trine finished the fall season 2-4. The match will be the Spartans' first of the spring after an 0-3 fall season.
Men's Lacrosse: Oberlin at Trine, 6 p.m.
The home-opener for the Thunder sees the team welcome the Yeoman to town. Trine finished its opening spring-break road trip 0-2. Paul Carlquist leads the Thunder with three goals and four assists. Oberlin enters the game 2-1.
Friday
Wrestling: NCAA Division III National Championships, 11 a.m.
Mack Green and Brandon Preston head to the national meet in Hershey, Pa. where they will compete for national titles and All-American honors. Green placed fifth in the heavyweight division and earned All-American honors last year. He is ranked second in the nation. Preston is a two-time national qualifier and is ranked eighth in the nation by the NWCA.
Track and Field: NCAA Division III National Championships, 10:30 a.m.
Thunder track and field performers head to Winston-Salem, N.C. An official announcement on which Trine competitors will make the trip will be made Monday. At the time of writing, Tyler Bourdo (400 M), Trisha King (800 M) and Kara Eck (Weight Throw) had qualifying performances.
Saturday
Wrestling: NCAA Division III National Championships, 10 a.m.
The National meet concludes with championship and third-through-seventh place matches. Any competitor placing in the top eight receives All-America honors.
Track and Field: NCAA Division III National Championships, 10 a.m.
Any Trine performers that qualify in preliminaries will compete for the national title Saturday. Last season, Tyler Bourdo (400 M) and Trisha King (800 M) each earned All-America honors with fifth-place finishes.
Tennis: Trine at Hanover, 10:30 a.m.
The men's and women's tennis teams travel to face the Panthers. The match will be the first of the spring for the Thunder women after a 4-2 fall season.
Softball: Trine at DePauw, 1 p.m.
The sixth-ranked Thunder enter the doubleheader 11-1 after their performance in the Dot Richardson Spring Games. Carly Searles became NCAA Division III's all-time leader in career triples. The two teams met three times last season, including in the NCAA Regionals. The Thunder won all three meetings. At the time of writing, DePauw was off to a 5-1 start to the season.
Baseball: Ohio Northern at Trine, 1 p.m.
The Thunder welcome the Polar Bears to town for what is expected to be Trine's home-opener at Jannen Field. The Thunder are 4-4 on the season after the season-opening trip to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. ONU enters the week 7-1 overall.
Men's Tennis: Trine vs. Berea, 1:30 p.m.
The Thunder men conclude the week with a neutral-site match against Berea at Hanover College.
Men's Lacrosse: Trine at Wilmington (OH), 2 p.m.
The Thunder take the road once again to face the Quakers. Wilmington enters the week 1-0. Trine won last season's meeting by a 15-3 final.
Women's Lacrosse: Trine at Defiance, 5 p.m.
The Thunder will look to make it two-straight wins as they travel to face the Yellow Jackets. Defiance enters the week 0-2. Taylor Gast scored six goals for Trine in their victory over Wilmington.
