ANGOLA, IND.-- Take at the upcoming schedule and a brief look at the week ahead in Trine Thunder athletics.
Monday
Women's Soccer: St. Mary's at Trine, 3 p.m.
The season wraps up with a home match against the Belles. The
Thunder will honor seniors Eleni Agelopolous, Kara Franks, Trisha
King, and Amy Williams.
Friday
MIAA Volleyball Semifinals: Trine vs. Calvin, 5:30
p.m.
Postseason play begins for the Thunder as they look to cap their
best season since joining NCAA Division III with a trip to the MIAA
Championships. The Knights swept both meetings this season, and
were ranked no. 1 in the nation in the latest AVCA poll. A win
would not only give the Thunder their first-ever trip to the MIAA
Championship, but potentially solidify an at-large bid to the NCAA
Tournament.
Saturday
Wrestling: Trine at Ben McMullen Open, 9:30 a.m.
The Thunder wrestlers open up the season with a trip to Muskegon
Community College. This will be the first look at a Trine team that
could feature five freshman in their lineup. Players to watch
include a pair of seniors- All-American Mack Green, and national
qualifier Brandon Preston.
Football: Trine at Hope, 1 p.m.
A trip to Holland is next on the docket as the Thunder work their
way towards a potential MIAA Championship and NCAA Playoff bid.
Trine is the only team remaining unbeaten in conference play, and
control their own destiny in the race for the league title. Hope
enters the contest 5-3 overall, and 2-2 in conference play after
dropping a close contest at Adrian last week. Thunder will also be
looking to avenge last season's defeat at the hands of the Flying
Dutchmen.
MIAA Volleyball Championship: Trine vs. TBA, if
necessary
If the Thunder win Friday, they will play for the MIAA
Championship Saturday afternoon at Hope College. Potential
opponents include no. 2 ranked Hope, or Alma. The Thunder played
the Dutch tough with a pair of four-set losses this season, and
swept the Scots in two meetings.
Sunday
Men's Basketball: Trine at Indiana State, 2 p.m.
The Thunder get to take their shot an NCAA Division I opponent
when they travel to Terre Haute for an exhibition. The Sycamore
finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference and earned a trip
to the NIT last season.
