Acrobatics and Tumbling Returns Home for Tight Match

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team competed in their home gym for the first time this season and took the match down to the wire with visiting Adrian College, but ultimately fell by the score of 238.87 to 220.23.

The Thunder picked up their first heat victory quickly in the match taking the Compulsory Acro Heat by the score of 7.05 to 6.65. The Bulldogs would take the other three heats, despite a strong score in the Pyramid Heat where Trine scored 9.35, and took the event 30.75 to 29.75.

The opposition extended their match lead in the second event outscoring Trine 25.65 to 23.15 in the Acro Event. The Thunder had a pair of strong scores in the event with a 8.45 in the "5 Element" and a 8.20 in the "7 Element" to keep the Bulldogs in reach.

The Pyramid Event saw another Adrian victory, but only by the slimmest of margins at 27.50 to 27.10, with the Thunder winning two out of three heats despite the total score. They scored event highs in the Synchronized heat with an 8.70 and in the Open Heat with a 9.40. Even in the first heat where they were outscored they posted a 9.00.

Going into halftime Adrian held just a slim 83.90 to 80.00 lead on the home team.

The Toss Event would also go to the opposition by the score of 23.85 to 22.70. Trine would win the Synchronized Heat however with a 7.10 score. They also turned in a 8.15 score in the Open Heat.

The Tumbling Event would once again be an extremely tight contest with Adrian winning by just .6 of a point at 43.65 to 43.05. The Thunder outscored the visiting team in the final three heats of the event scoring 6.30 in the Quad Pass, 7.75 in the Aerial Pass, 7.175 in the "6 Element" Pass and 8.425 in the Open Pass.

The Team Event saw the Thunder fall further behind after the majority of the match had been a close affair. Adrian posted an 87.47 while Trine ended with a 74.48 to end the contest with the loss.

The Thunder fall to 0-2 following the loss. They will travel to face Presbyterian College in their next contest. That event is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 10.
