Season High Score not Enough for Acrobatics and Tumbling

CLINTON, S.C. -- The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team faced off with nationally-ranked, Division I Presbyterian College and posted a season-high final score, but would ultimately fall by the score of 260.005 to 231.595.

The Thunder would turn in solid scores in each event including season highs in all but the Tumbling Event, which the just missed out on. 

In Compulsory the team posted a pair of above nine scores, with a 9.65 in the pyramid heat and a 9.45 in the toss heat. Overall, they would finish with a 32.40.

In Acro, the team would turned in a pair of above eight scores, both coming in just a point off of their start values. They posted a 8.30 in the first heat with a start value of 9.05 and a 8.25 in the third heat with a start value with 9.25.

All three of the teams heat scores would top nine in the Pyramid Event, a first for the team this season. They posted a 9.30 in the first heat, a 9.00 in the second heat and a 9.35 in the third heat.

The Thunder trailed 95.30 to 83.25 at halftime as the opposition brought their Division I talent to bare on the contest.

Trine posted three above eight scores in the Toss Event, coming within a point of top marks for all three. They came up with an 8.40 in the first heat with a 8.80 start value, a 8.30 in the second heat with a start value of 8.80 and a 8.55 in the third heat with a 9.15.

The team turned in probably their weakest performance of the day in the Tumbling Event but still posted some strong scores including a pair of over eight scores. In the trio pass the team scored an 8 out of 8.50 and in the open pass the team turned in an 8.20 out of 8.50.

The Thunder finished off the day with a program record 80.32 on their team event with a start value of 92.87. Presbyterian would score 88.83 out of a possible 100.83 in that event and finshed the day with the 260.005-231.595 victory.

Trine falls to 0-3 following the loss. They will continue their spring break trip tomorrow, March 11 when they face Mars Hill University for a 7 p.m. contest.
