Thunder Split Final Home Event of Season

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team split their final day of regular season competition defeating Adrian College while coming up short of Augustana (S.D.) University. The home meet represents the first home tri-meet in the program's history.

The Thunder started the day with their second-best performance in the Compulsory Event ever posting a total score of 33.05. The score was built on third-best scores in both the acro heat, with 8.35, and toss heat, with 9.40. They also had a solid score in the pyramid heat with a 9.40. The Bulldogs would post a score of 31.50 and the Vikings had 35.55.

Augustana built on their lead, while Adrian cut into Trine's, in the Acro Event. The home team finished the event with a 24.05, third of the three teams. Their best score came in the first heat where they posted a 9.05.

The same placements happened in the Pyramid Event as well, with the Thunder finishing third of the three teams with a 26.40. This time they posted decent scores in all three heats, with an 8.25 in the first, an 8.65 in the second and a 9.50 in the third.

After the first half of the competition, the Vikings held the lead with 88.30 points. The Thunder held a slim lead for second with 83.50 points compared the Bulldogs' 82.60.

Trine got back on track during the Toss Event, posting the third best total score in program history with a 24.95, good enough for second. Their best heat was the third where they had their second-best score in history with an 8.60. They also came up with an 8.40 in the first heat, tied for third best.

The team once again finished second in the event during the Tumbling Event, this time with a score of 44.950. They posted third-best program scores in three of the heats including the duo pass (6.80), the aerial pass (8.35) and the open pass (8.775).

After another second-place finish in the Team Event where the Thunder scored 76.40, the team would secure a split in the totals. They finished the day with a score of 229.800 beating Adrian's 219.770, but coming up short of Augustana with their 251.085 points.

Trine finishes the regular season with a 4-3 record. They will travel to Texas for the 2023 NCATA Division III Championships for the end of their season. More details on the trip will be released when available.
