Thunder Finish National Runners-up; Win Quad Pass Event Final

 

BELTON, Texas – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team has finished the season as the second best in the country after dropping the NCATA Division III Tournament championship to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Thunder posted their second best total score in program history posting a score of 245.225 while UMHB scored 268.270.

The Cru took the lead during the Compulsory Event by the Thunder still posted their best score in program history with a 35.25 to the oppositions 37.65. They built that score by tying their best performance in the tumbling heat with a 7.45 and second best performance in the acro heat with a 9.00.

The home side increased their lead during the Acro Event, but again Trine turned in a program best with this time with a score of 27.40. They also turned on first in both first heat (9.55) and the third heat (9.45).

The Thunder posted their fourth best score during the Pyramid Event with a 28.45. That score included top five postings in the first (9.45) and second heat (9.30). UMHB led the match 96.50 to 91.10 at halftime.

Out of the intermission, Trine posted their fifth best score in the Toss Event with a 24.65. They had a second best score in the first heat with a 8.6 and a fourth best in the second heat with a 8.15.

The Cru pulled away during the Tumbling Event when they outscored the Thunder 53.35 to 44.675. Trine's best showings came in the quad pass with a 7.55 and the open with an 8.825. Earlier in the day the Thunder also won the event finals in the Quad Pass with an 8.20.

The Thunder posted their fifth best score in the team event to end the day. They scored an 84.80 to get to their final total of 245.225 overall, finishing second in the nation.
