Thunder Defeat Falcons to Start Season

MEQUON, Wis. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team starts their season with a victory, defeating Concordia University Wisconsin by the score of 237.725 to 219.500.

The Thunder opened the second best Compulsory Event performance in program history, scoring 33.75. Along the way they posted fourth best scores in both the acro heat with a 8.55 and the tumbling heat with a 6.60.

In the Acro Event the Thunder built on their lead, outscoring the Falcons 24.05 to 20.90. Their best score in the second heat where they posted an 8.25.

To finish off the first half, the team won the Pyramid Event 27.80 to 26.30, building their total lead to 85.60 to 78.25 at the intermission. During the event Trine posted to scores over nine including the second best in the synchronized heat with a 9.45 and a 9.60 in the open heat.

Out of the break, the Thunder came out strong. Despite losing the Toss Event, they scored a third best program performance with 25.15 points. They had the best score in program history in the second heat with an 8.40 and the second-best score in the open heat with an 8.70.

Trine came up big in the Tumbling Event, posting a new program record with a score of 46.775, winning the event by 2.325. They had a new best performance in the aerial pass with an 8.775 and top-five scores in the duo pass (7.450) and quad pass (7.650).

The Thunder finished the day with an 80.20 in the Team Event giving the team their final victory with a score of 237.725.

Trine will next take the mats when they travel to face Buffalo State University on Saturday, February 24 at 2 p.m.
