Baseball Sweeps Milwaukee School of Engineering

AUBURNDALE, Fla.-- Trine earned a walk-off win in game one and followed that up with another victory to sweep Milwaukee School of Engineering Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.

The Thunder had to go to extra innings for the second consecutive day in game one, but this time Trine was able to get the 5-4 win as Jordan Baer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Leo) scored the winning run on an error. The Thunder used a five-run seventh to put game two out of reach and earn a 9-3 victory. Freshman Colton Conn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) rapped out four hits and drove in two runs, while Baer also had a four-hit day and knocked in a run. Trine improves to 3-2 on the season. MSOE falls to 0-5.

Game One: Trine 5, MSOE 4 (9)

The Raiders rallied back in the seventh to force extras, but Trine took advantage of some late MSOE mistakes to earn the victory.

Trailing 4-2 entering the top of the seventh, MSOE put two runners on with two outs. A double to center by Jimmy Carrington plated both runners and tied the score to send the game to extras.

The Thunder put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth to earn the victory. Baer led off with a single, and stole second to advance into scoring position. He then moved up to third on an error by pitcher, before racing home with the winning run on yet another Raider error.

Baer picked up two hits and drove in a run. Jake Kendall (New Castle, Ind./New Castle) notched his third multi-hit game of the year with two hits, including a two-run single in the second.

Jake Weimer (Pittsboro, Ind./Brownsburg) picked up the victory with 2.2 innings of relief work. Brandon Mylcraine (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) was solid in his first start of the season, allowing two earned and striking out three over 6.1 innings.

Despite allowing just one earned run over 8.2 innings, Thomas Hardwick was tagged with the loss for the Raiders.

Game Two: Trine 9, MSOE 3

A big seventh inning helped the Thunder run away with the game late to earn the sweep.

After Trine built a 4-3 lead over the first three innings, the two teams traded zeroes until a big Thunder seventh inning. Trine loaded the bases with one out, before Drew Palmer (Hartford, Wisc./Hartford Union) plated two runs with a double to center. Palmer has been clutch in the early going for Trine, with eight RBIs already this season.

Conn followed with another double to score another run. Conn picked up his first two RBIs as a collegiate baseball player in game two. The freshman took full advantage of his first collegiate starts with four hits and two walks in seven plate appearances on the day.

The Thunder added two runs on wild pitches in the seventh. Jake LaBounty (Avon, Ind./Covenant Christian) also picked up two RBIs as part of a three-run third.

Shaun Seigneur (Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing) earned his first collegiate victory with four innings of scoreless relief work. He surrendered two hits, walked two and struck out two.

Tyler Parisi homered, while Jake Roberts and Brandon McCumber also knocked in runs for MSOE.

Trine will get a day off before returning to action Thursday at Chain Of Lakes Park. The Thunder will face Aurora, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
