Thunder Swept to end Spring Road Trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla.-- Trine was swept by Mount Union in the final games of the RussMatt Central Floriday Invitational.

The Purple Raiders won both games by scores of 7-3. Sean Mohney notched five hits, including four that went for extra bases, and picked up four RBIs to lead Mount Union. Kory Shackle (Butler, Ohio/Mount Vernon) notched four hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Thunder. Shackle and Jake Kendall (New Castle, Ind./New Castle) each extended hitting-streaks to six games. Trine heads north from its spring break trip with a 4-4 record. Mount Union improves to 6-2 on the season.

Game One: Mount Union 7, Trine 3

Two big innings led the Purple Raiders to the game one victory.

Mount Union scored three runs in the first and added three more in the fourth. Anthony Morino doubled home a pair of runs in the first and scored on a groundout by Justin Jakubik. The big fourth inning featured a RBI-double by Jakubik, an RBI-double by James Weber and a run-scoring single from Adam Bialosky.

Morino, Jakubik and Bialosky each finished game one with two hits and a pair or RBIs.

Kendall, Jordan Baer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Leo) and Drew Palmer (Hartford, Wisc./Hartford Union) each picked up RBIs for the Thunder.

Wes Kemp allowed three earned runs in six innings to earn the victory for Mount Union.

Game Two: Mount Union 7, Trine 3

The Purple Raiders scored four-straight runs and added insurance runs late to earn the victory.

After a Shackle RBI-single gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead in the first, Mount Union scored four runs in their next five at-bats to open up a three-run lead. Shackle added an RBI-single in the sixth.

Mohney had a huge game two, with an RBI-triple in the second, an RBI-double in the fourth and a two-run double in the sixth. His hits knocked in four of the Raiders' six runs. Mitchell Lake added another RBI-triple and Morino drove in a run with a single.

Zach Seder (Saginaw, Mich./Valley Lutheran) picked up his first-career RBI for Trine with a run-scoring double in the seventh.

Trine returns to action Saturday, Mar. 14 when they host Ohio Northern. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
