Thunder Swept by Albion

ANGOLA, Ind.-- Albion took two games from Trine to wrap up the MIAA between the two teams Monday afternoon at Jannen Field.

The Britons earned a 13-7 victory in game one before slugging their way to a 16-2 victory in the nightcap. Albion pounded out 35 hits between the two games. Michael Fischbach finished with six hits and knocked in eight runs. Jack Wyman picked up five hits and five RBIs, earned the game two victory on the mound and fell a single short of the cycle in game two. Jordan Baer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Leo) homered and drove in three runs as part of a three-hit day for the Thunder. Trine falls to 7-11 overall, 3-5 in the MIAA. Albion is 10-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Game One: Albion 13, Trine 7

The Britons were able to build a big lead early and withstand a big Thunder sixth inning to earn the victoy.

Albion built a 9-0 lead over the first six innings. Fischbach drove in four of the Britons' first five runs on three hits. Spencer Bonofiglio launched a two-run homer in the first and Mitch Lasceski added an RBI-single in the fifth.

The Thunder climbed back into the game with a big sixth inning, batting around to pull within 9-6. Ethan Prebynski (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) doubled home a run in front of Baer, who hit a deep drive to center for his fourth-career home run and first of the season. Baer had eight hits in the four-game series against the Britons and extended his hitting-streak to six games. 

Jake LaBounty (Avon, Ind./Covenant Christian) tripled home a run and Kory Shackle (Butler, Ohio/Mount Vernon) added a sac fly in the inning.

The Britons didn't let the Thunder hang around however, as they scored four runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Kyle Kowal struck one of the big blows of the inning with a solo home run. The Britons finished game one with six hits for extra bases.

Game Two: Albion 16, Trine 2

The Britons two-through-five spots in the lineup combined to knock in 13 runs to pace the victory.

Wyman had four hits- a home run, triple and two doubles to fall a single short of the cycle. Wyman drove in five runs, and went the distance to earn the victory. He threw 129 pitches, scattering seven hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Fischbach and Steven Marowski each drove in three runs. One of Marowski's two hits was a home run. Kowal also knocked in a pair in the game.

Colton Conn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) and Baer each drove in runs for the Thunder.

Trine will travel to Heidelberg for a single, non-conference game tomorrow at 4 p.m.
