FREELAND, Mich.-- Three members of the Trine baseball team earned recognition on the All-MIAA Baseball teams, the conferenec announced Wednesday.
Catcher Kyle Auernhamer (Vassar, Mich./Vassar) was named to the All-MIAA First Team, while first baseman Jordan Baer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Leo) and pitcher Andy Farrell (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/St. Vincent- St. Mary) were named to the second team. Baer picked up the second all-conference nod of his Trine career, while Auernhamer and Farrell are both first-time honorees. The Thunder concluded the season 18-22 overall and placed fifth in the MIAA with a 13-15 leage mark.
Auernhamer threw out 15 runners trying to steal this season, the most in the Division-III era at Trine and the third-most on record in team history. The senior backstop cut down 14 of those runners in MIAA play at a rate of 51.9 percent- the best in the league in conference play.
Auernhamer batted .280 on the season with a .350 on-base percentage, 14 RBIs and seven doubles. He is the first Trine catcher ever named to the All-MIAA First Team. Auernahmer notched six multi-hit games.
Baer earned the second all-conference honor of his career, finishing third in the MIAA with 24 RBIs in conference play. The senior hit all of his career-high three home runs in conference play. The first baseman also led the league in fielding putouts in league games.
Overall, Baer batted .295 with three home runs, 29 RBIs, a career-high five stolen bases and a .447 slugging percentage. Baer concluded his career second in doubles, triples and RBIs at Trine in the Division-III era.
Farrell became the first pitcher to toss back-to-back shutouts in MIAA play since 2012 and the first Trine pitcher to accomplish the feat. The sophomore's three shutouts this season are the most on record in team history. Farrell finished with a 4-3 record in conference play.
Overall, Farrell finished with a 4-4 record with a 4.55 ERA in a team-leading 59.1 innings pitched. The lefty fanned 37 hitters, tied for the fourth-most in a season at Trine in the Division-III era.
