Thunder Conclude MIAA Series with Loss to Adrian

Angola, Ind. – The Trine's baseball team lost against Adrian, 14-4, to conclude the MIAA conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Jannen Field. Game two was originally scheduled for Saturday April 30, but was postponed due to weather conditions.

Trine was able to take the lead early on, but Adrian stormed back with a couple of big late innings to put it away. The Bulldogs' pitching was able to hold the Thunder to four runs, while Adrian notched 20 hits in the game. Collin Parcher hit a two-run home run to left field in the eighth inning. Zach Seder (Saginaw, Mich. / Valley Lutheran) hit his first-career home run during the second inning for the Thunder. Zach Thorn (Portage, Ind. / Portage) is now tied for third for most doubles in a season in program history with 13.

Trine is now 12-12 in MIAA play and 16-19 overall. Adrian is now 21-3 in MIAA play and 27-9 overall.

Seder drew first blood of the game during the bottom of the second, when he went yard in deep center field for his first career home run. Seder notched two hits and laid down a sacrifice bunt in the game.

The Bulldogs tied the game back up at on- apiece when Josh Knorr hit an RBI single up the middle in the top of the third.

The Thunder was able to take the lead back when Kory Shackle (Butler, Ohio / Mount Vernon) hit an RBI ground out, allowing Jacob Heller (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Prairie Heights) to cross home plate from third. Heller previously advanced to third after heads-up base running that came off of a bunt when he was on first.

Matt Andrus tied the game back up at two during the top of the sixth, when he hit an RBI down the right foul line. With Brian Guck's RBI ground out, Adrian was able to take the lead 3-2 in the top of the sixth.

Adrian was able to have back to back big innings to put things away. The Bulldogs scored six in the seventh and five in the eighth. Trine added two in the seventh on a RBI-double by Jake Kendall (New Castle, Ind. / New Castle) and a RBI-single by Heller.

The Thunder look to bounce back Thursday afternoon when they host Albion for a MIAA conference doubleheader and to start the series between the teams. First pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.

Trine enters the final series trailing fourth-place Alma by two games in the standings. The Thunder would need to tie or pass the Scots to earn a MIAA Tournament bid.
