Baseball Falls in Doubleheader to Adrian

ANGOLA, Ind.—The Trine baseball team dropped a doubleheader against Adrian on Friday at Jannen Field.

The Thunder moves to 16-15 overall and is 10-12 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foes. Adrian improves to 26-8 overall and 19-3 in conference action.

Sophomore Jacob Heller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Prairie Heights) led the Thunder with four hits and a RBI. Seniors Drew Palmer (Hartford, Wisc./Hartford Union) and Zach Seder (Saginaw, Mich./Valley Lutheran) each had three hits on the day.

GAME ONE: Adrian 8, Trine 2
After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs got on the board first with an unearned run in the top of the third. Adrian took a four-run lead adding three more in the fourth.
Seder led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to third base and followed by stealing second. Chase Hall (Orleans, Ind./Orleans) hit down the right field line to drive in the Thunder's first run of the game.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth off four hits and one error.
Palmer led off in the bottom of the sixth with a double to right center. Robert Ross (Valrariaso, Ind./Washington Township) drove Palmer in with a single to center.
Adrian drove in two runs in the top of the seventh to round out their win.
The Thunder had four batters notch two hits each in Heller, Palmer, Ross and Seder. Ross and Hall recorded RBI for Trine. Ben Wheaton (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett Catholic Central) moves to 4-2 with the loss on the mound for Trine going five and two-thirds innings. Dylan Hutchison (Montpelier, Ohio/North Central) pitched one and a third inning in relief for the Thunder.
The Bulldogs were led by Tristin Richardson with three hits and an RBI. Ian Milowski, Ryan Dorow, Frank Resto and Miccoy Drzewiecki each had two hits. Drzewiecki notched a home run for Adrian.
Tommy Parsons improves to 8-1 on the season pitching for the Bulldogs. In seven innings, he gave up 10 hits and two earned runs while striking out 12 Thunder batters.

GAME TWO: Adrian 10, Trine 4
The Bulldogs opened game two  with a run after Hunter Hayes doubled to left center driving in Dorow.
The Thunder answered in the bottom of the inning. Colton Conn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) led off with a hit through the left side and advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by Chris Frantz (Niles, Mich./Niles). Conn was pushed to third off a single to right by Palmer. Heller drove in Conn after reaching on a fielder's choice.
The Bulldogs added a second run in the top of the second and followed with three more runs in the third. Adrian held a 6-1 lead after four innings. Adrian grabbed two more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 8-1.
Kevin O'Malley (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central) and Ben Pritchett  (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) walked to lead off in the bottom of he seventh. Hall loaded the bases with a single to right. Conn drove in a run, but was out at first base. Nick Ricci (Hebron, Ind./Crown Point) came in to pinch hit and drove in the Thunder's third run of the game.
In the top of the eighth, Brian Killinger hit a two-run homer for the Bulldogs.
The Thunder looked to rally in the bottom of the ninth inning. O'Malley led off with a hit through the left side. Jacob Douglass (Frankfort, Ind./Western) pinch-hit and singled to centerfield. Dean Klann (Dowagiac, Mich./Dowagiac Union) advanced to second after coming in to pinch run for Trine. Hall singled to third to load the bases. With one out, Zachary Schulte (Sterling Heights, Mich./Warren Cousino) had an infield hit to drive in Klann. Adrian recorded the next two outs to win the game.
Heller and Hall each had two hits for the Thunder. Conn, Ricci, Schulte and Heller each drove in a run. Andy Farrell took the loss pitching seven innings. Shaun Seigneur came in from the bullpen to pitch two innings striking out three batters.
Killinger  and Dugan Darnell led the Bulldogs with three hits and two RBI. Pierce Banks improves to 7-0 earning the win pitching eight innings and striking out seven Thunder batters.
The Thunder travels to Adrian on Saturday for the final doubleheader of Trine's series against the Bulldogs. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
