Wheaton Named to Second Team, MIAA Tournament Field Announced

FREELAND, Mich. -- Senior Adam Wheaton (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Hackett Catholic Prep) has been named All-MIAA second team the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced.

It is the second time Wheaton has been named All-MIAA second team the first coming during the 2019 season.

This year Wheaton once again turned in a strong season of work finishing top-five in multiple categories among MIAA competition. His highest statistical finish was in strikeouts per nine innings where he led the conference with an average of 10.01.  He would finish fourth in the MIAA with a 3.21 earned run average and third with 53 total strikeouts. Wheaton led the Thunder in all three of those categories and finished second on the team as well as leading the team in wins.

The team also learned that they would enter the 2021 MIAA Baseball Tournament as the seventh seed. 

For this season the tournament will consist of two four-team pods playing a double-elimination tournament before the winners of the two pods face off in a best of three series. The Thunder will compete in the pod hosted by Hope College, the second-seed.

They begin tournament play on Wednesday, May 12 when they travel to face Hope for a 4 p.m. game.
