ACHA D2 Finish Weekend Sweep of Lakers

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine men's ACHA D2 hockey team defeated Grand Valley State University in a close game by the score of 4-3.

The Thunder came out strong in the contest finding the back of the net four times in the first two periods without giving up a goal in return. Forward Brendan Werstine led off the scoring for the Thunder with the lone goal in the first period. Niccolo Mombelli, Joe Laskero, and Braeden Pearl all took advantage of some power-play opportunities in the second period to extend the lead to 4-0. Pearl would lead the team in points recording both the goal and an assist.

The Lakers would score the last three goals of the contest through the end of the second period and the beginning of the third to make the contest a close one. But they failed to score even when they pulled their goalie for the last minute of the game and would thus lose by the score of 4-3.

With the win, the Thunder improve to 9-0 on the season. In Friday's contest against the Lakers, Trine broke the 100 goals mark for the season and with tonight's goals included the team has scored 104 goals so far.

The Team next takes the ice on Saturday, Oct. 21 when Adrian College comes to Angola for a 5:00 p.m. game.
