ACHA D2 Sweeps MSU on Weekend

ANGOLA, IND.—The Trine men's ACHA D2 hockey team defeated Michigan State University by the score of 8-2 today, to complete the weekend sweep of the Spartans after defeating them 4-2 on Friday.

On Friday, the Thunder spread the wealth with four separate skaters coming away with one goal each. Freshman forward Austin Christie (Cheboygan, Mich.) scored the first goal of the game for Trine in the 17th minute of the second period. He would add an assist on the night to share the lead in points for the Thunder with two others. Both Brandon Bornkamp (Fort Wayne Ind.) and Spencer Johnson (Novi, Mich.) would each tally two assists to also finish the night with two points.

On Saturday, the Thunder would double up the Spartans in both the first and second period to head into the second intermission with a 4-2 lead. In the third they would pull away tallying four goals on their way to the 8-2 win. Defenseman Adam Schaffer (Defiance, Ohio) would finish the night with three goals and an assist in the game to lead the team in goals and points. Freshman forward Sean Schirripa (Bethlehem, Pa.) would finish the night with two goals of his own to finish second on the team for the night.

Junior Tyler Hough (Mount Airy, Md.) got the win in net on Friday while freshman Adam Conkling (Fort Wayne, Ind.) would get the win on Saturday.

The Thunder will next take the ice on Friday, Nov. 17 when they host Indiana University for a 10:00 p.m. contest.
