Thunder Pick Up Pair of Wins Over Oakland

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine men's ACHA D2 hockey team swept Oakland University this weekend. They won by the score of 6-2 on Friday evening and 4-2 on Saturday.

On Friday, six different skaters tallied goals for Trine on the way to the 6-2 victory. Junior forward Braeden Pearl (Orignal, Ontario) led the team with a goal and two assists on the night. Freshman forward Michael Rand (Langley, British Columbia) was also involved in three of the contest's goals with three assists on the night.

On Saturday, the offensive attack was just as diverse with four different skaters coming away with goals. Freshmen forwards Brandon Bornkamp (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Niccolo Mombelli (Solothurn, Switzerland) tied to lead the team with two points apiece. Bornkamp finished with two assists in the game, while Mombelli came away with a goal and an assist.

Junior goaltender Tyler Hough picked up the wins in both contests and finished the weekend with 43 saves.

The Thunder do not return to the ice until 2018, on Jan. 12 when they travel to University of Toledo for a 7 p.m. contest.
