ACHA D2 Team Ranked Third

ANGOLA, IND. -- In the ninth American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 2 rankings of the season, the Trine men's ACHA D2 hockey team is once again ranked third in the central region.

The Thunder remain unbeaten after last weekends pair of games against the southeast region's number four team the University of Toledo. On Friday, Trine defeated the Rockets by the score of 6-2. Both Joe Laskero and Brandon Bornkamp finished the game with a team-high two goals apiece. On Saturday, Bornkamp led the team with a hattrick in the 7-6 victory over Toledo. Following the weekend Trine has an overall record of 20-0-2.

The Thunder are led by a strong offensive attack. They lead the central region, and come in second in the nation, with 184 goals so far this season. They average just over eight goals per game and have seven players in with double-digit goal totals.

Bornkamp leads the team with 21 goals, 25 assists and 46 points. In goal, the Thunder are led by Tyler Hough, he leads the team with a .922 save percentage. He has a 2.20 goals-against average and has made 225 saves.

This is the second season that the ACHA has utilized computerized rankings for their men's Division 2 teams. The rankings determine the top 20 teams from four regions (Central, Northeast, Southeast and West).

The season's final rankings are used to determine which teams receive invites to the national championship tournament. Four teams from each region receive an invite to the national championships which take place in Columbus, Ohio. The top two teams in each region receive an automatic bid to the national tournament, while teams ranked 3-12 compete in a regional competition for the final two slots.

The Thunder will take the ice again on Sunday, January 21, when they travel to Adrian College for a 2 p.m. contest.
