ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University ACHA D2 hockey team came up with a pair of wins this weekend beating Grand Valley State University on Friday 6-2 and on Saturday 9-7.

On Friday the Thunder started the scoring in just the fourth minute of the contest. Freshman Dillon Fox (Greenville, Wis.) scored the goal giving the team its first lead. They would add to that lead five minutes later when senior Stan Jatczak (LaGrange Park, Ill.) picked up up the goal.

The goal that would end up being the game-winner in the contest came in the 11th minute of the period with sophomore Dakota Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) scoring and senior Tanner Bennett (Columbus, Ind.) adding an assist.

The Thunder would score three goals in the second period to pull away in the contest. Sophomore Kyle Callahan (Fort Wayne, Ind.), junior Nicholas Ludeman (Heymarket, Va.) and junior Christian Wirth-Karbler (Westland, Mich.) each tallied a goal apiece to round out the scoring for the Thunder.

Saturday's contest was a high scoring affair for both teams. Once again the Thunder ended the first period with a lead scoring three goals while allowing just one. Fox, Davis and Ludeman were the goal scorers for the Thunder.

In the second, the Lakers closed the game scoring two goals to only one for Trine. Junior Trenton Mulnix (Leslie, Mich.) came away with the lone goal for the Thunder as they entered the second intermission with a 4-3 lead.

The third period saw the flood gates open for both teams, as they combined for nine goals in total. Trine scored first with Ludeman picking up his second of the night. They then looked to have put the game out of reach with a second goal, this time from senior Joe Laskero (Orland Park, Ill.), giving them a 6-3 lead with just under 14 minutes remaining.

But the Lakers went on a run of their own scoring four unanswered goals to take their first lead of the contest at 7-6 with seven minutes remaining.

The lead was short-lived however as Trine came up with a goal just under a minute later. The goal was scored by senior Dante Suffredini (Washington Township, Mich.) his first of the weekend.

They then added another goal a few minutes, again from Laskero, to take back the lead at 8-7. The Thunder then iced the game with another goal this time from Sean Schirripa (Bethlehem, Pa.).

The Thunder improve to 7-7-1 overall following the wins. They will continue their season with a home game against Adrian College on Thursday, Nov. 14, with opening puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
