ACHA D2 Sweeps Michigan State in Weekend Doubleheader

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's ACHA D2 hockey team picked up a pair of wins this weekend over Michigan State University. The first came on the road by the score of 6-3 and the second came at home in 6-0 shutout fashion.

On Friday the Thunder traveled to Lansing, Mich. to take on the Spartans and started the contest by building a 4-0 lead at the midpoint of the second period. They would go on to take the victory by the score of 6-3 after Michigan State picked up a goal in the second and two in the third.

The offensive effort in the contest was a balanced one, with six different members of the team turning in a goal. Freshman Dillon Fox (Greenville, Wis.) started the scoring while junior Jake Hatten (Granger, Ind.) tallied the final goal of the night. Freshman Yuli Lima (Jonesboro, Ark.), sophomore Dakota Davis (Nashville, Tenn.), junior Sean Schirripa (Bethlehem, Pa.) and junior Christian Wirth-Karbler (Westland, Mich.) rounded out the scoring.

Trine kept their foot on the gas on Saturday scoring three goals in each of the first two periods while allowing none from the opposition to take the game 6-0.

Senior Dante Suffredini (Washington Township, Mich.) started the scoring on the day in the first period with the eventual game-winner. Sophomore Trent Wydrowski (Bellevue, Wash.) led the way with two goals in the contest for Trine, both coming in the second period. Rounding out the scoring were Davis, Fox and junior Nicholas Ludeman (Heymarket, Va.).

The Thunder improve to 10-9-1 following the weekend. They will not return to the ice until 2020, their next game coming on Friday, January 10 when they travel to face Oakland University in a 7:15 p.m. contest.
