Thunder Charge Past Cardinals

ANGOLA, IND. – The Trine men's ACHA D3 hockey team ran away from the opposition in a 10-3 defeat of Ball State University.

The Thunder started their scoring early, when in just the second minute of the game freshman defender Tyler Groth (South Lyon, Mich.) scored an unassisted goal. Trine would score three more in the period to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. Freshman forward Jacob Yehle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and freshman defenseman Ryan Dumond (Woodstock, Ga.) each tallied a goal and Groth added a second to round out the scoring in the period.

In the second the Thunder once again struck first, this time freshman forward Jacob Ruelle (Niles, Mich.) started the scoring again in the second minute of the period. Both Yehle and Dumond tallied their second goals of the game in the period. Trine also surrendered three goals in the period, so they took a 7-3 lead into the second intermission.

The Thunder scored in just the second minute of the period for a third time in the final period. This time junior forward Trenton Mulnix (Leslie, Mich.) tallied the goal, his first of the contest. Freshman forward Michael Wiggins (Peoria, Ariz.) scored his lone goal of the contest in the fourth minute of the period. Finally, Dumond finished off his hat trick in the 14th minute of the period to cap off the scoring in the game and the Thunder would finish with the 10-3 victory.

The Thunder enter their midseason break following the game. They will not take the ice again until January.
