Kaluzny Takes ACHA D3 Hockey Team’s Reins

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University Assistant Vice President for Athletics Matt Land has announced the promotion of Alex Kaluzny to head coach of the ACHA D3 men's hockey team.

"We are excited for Alex to take the next step in his career here at Trine," said Land, "He has already shown that he fits the culture of Thunder hockey and now he will have the chance to take our ACHA D3 team to the next level as a head coach."

Kaluzny arrived at Trine in the summer of 2018 as an assistant coach for the ACHA D2 men's hockey team. He helped coach the team to their second straight appearance in the ACHA National Championship Tournament. The Thunder finished the regular season 21-9 before sweeping their way through regionals to earn their second trip to the national tournament.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this group of student-athletes going into Trine's third season of ACHA hockey," said Kaluzny, "I look forward to continuing to build a strong program that works toward student-athletes developing on and off the ice."

Kaluzny came to Trine following a stint as a graduate assistant for the University of Jamestown's ACHA D1 men's hockey team. During his lone season with the Jimmies, Kaluzny helped the team reach its first appearance in the ACHA National Championship Tournament.

Before his time at the University of Jamestown, Kaluzny served as a Player Development Assistant at NCAA Division I Canisius College. During his time there the team picked up their first regular-season Atlantic Hockey Conference championship.

Kaluzny attended the State University of New York at Fredonia where he graduated with a degree in Journalism and Athletic Coaching. During his undergraduate years, he was a volunteer for the school's hockey team and was an integral part of coaching the back-to-back state champion Dunkirk-Fredonia high school hockey program.
