Masiewicz, Lopshire Named MIAA Players of the Week

FREELAND, MICH.-- Trine's Taylor Masiewicz and Joel Lopshire have been named MIAA Players of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Masiewicz (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, and the second time in his career. Lopshire (Angola, Ind./Angola) was named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week, also for the second time this season and second in his career. The duo played a key role in Trine's 51-45 victory over Albion this past Saturday. The Thunder are the only unbeaten in MIAA play this season, and control their own destiny in the conference race at 3-0. Trine is 5-2 overall this season.

Masiewicz accounted for 403 yards of total offense in Saturday's victory. The junior completed 22-of-34 passes for 317 yards and a touchdown, and added 86 yards rushing on 16 carries. Masiewicz is the first player in school history with over 400 yards of total offense in two-consecutive games, and the only player in team history with two such games to his credit.

The dual-threat quarterback ranks third in the MIAA in passing yards per game (230.9) and fifth in rushing yards per game (64.4). Masiewicz is tied for third in the conference with seven rushing touchdowns.

Lopshire was 3-of-3 on field goal attempts, connecting on field goals from 27, 30, and 25 yards. He also booted six extra-points. His three field goal makes tied a team record. Lopshire's 15 points scored by kicking is a new school record.

The senior has been a valuable weapon for the Thunder this season, having not missed a field goal (6-for-6) or extra point (13-for-13) in conference play. Lopshire is the only MIAA kicker with 10 or more attempts to not miss an extra-point this season. He is 7-for-8 on field goal attempts this year.

Trine travels to Kalamazoo for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Hornets this Saturday, Nov. 1.
