Barnett earns D3Football.com All-Region Honors

MINNEAPOLIS-- Trine's Jeffery Barnett has been named to the D3Football.com All-North Region team, the organization announced Monday.

Barnett (Fremont, Ohio/Fremont-Ross) was named to the third-team offense as a return specialist. The freshman earned All-MIAA Second Team honors as a freshman this season, ranking second in the conference and 28th in the nation with a kickoff return average of 25.6 yards. Barnett is the first freshman to earn All-Region honors at Trine in the Division III era (2004-present). He is the third Thunder special teams performer to earn All-Region recognition during that time span.

Among Barnett's notable performances this season was a big returning day against Alma, which featured a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to spark a comeback victory. The kickoff return TD was the fourth-longest in team history. Barnett totaled 511 kickoff return yards this season, sixth-most in program history.

Barnett also saw action and made contributions at wide receiver in freshman campaign. He caught 28 passes for 421 yards and one touchdown.

The 2015 D3Football.com All-Region teams are presented by Stag Bowl XLIII, to be played on Friday, Dec. 18 in Salem, Va. The teams, selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3Football.com staff, were chosen from 228 nominations by Division III member schools.

This is the 11th season D3Football.com has selected all-region teams. All-Region performers will be eligible for D3Football.com All-America consideration. The All-America teams will be announced Friday, Dec. 18 at the Stagg Bowl.

Trine concluded the season 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA. The Thunder had 10 players named to the All-MIAA teams.
