Trine University football standout earns gold at tournament

ANGOLA, Ind. – A Trine University former defensive end earned a gold medal at the International Federation of American Football Championship recently in Canton, Ohio.

Ryan Hogan, a 2015 graduate who was on the Thunder squad from 2011 to 2014, is a member of Team USA that defeated Japan, 59-12, on July 18. Every four years, teams from across the world compete for the IFAF Championship, which began in 1999.

Hogan, a criminal justice major from Vine Grove, Ky., holds Trine's all-time record for quarterback sacks and had three sacks for the U.S. when it played Mexico on July 9, also in Canton. Hogan competed for the U.S. in four games against Mexico, France and Japan.

During the tournament, the U.S.:
