Carswell Earns Offensive Player of the Week Honors

FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine's Lamar Carswell has been named the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Offensive Player of the Week of the 2016 season, the conference announced Monday.

Carswell (Toledo, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) sparked Trine's running game in the second half of Thursday's season-opening 23-9 victory over Manchester. The sophomore racked up 150 yards on 15 carries, scoring two touchdowns. Carswell was at his best in the fourth quarter, totaling 86 yards and both of his scores on nine carries during the game's deciding stretch. Carswell is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career.

Carswell's performance marked his second career effort of 100-plus rushing yards against Manchester. In his debut as a freshman last season, Carswell torched the Spartans for 172 yards and three touchdowns. In two career games against Manchester, he has totaled 322 yards rushing and five touchdowns, all while averaging 10.7 yards per carry.

Thursday's effort was the third 100-yard rushing effort of Carswell's career. The sophomore has totaled 665 yards and eight touchdowns in nine career games. He has a career average of 6.3 yards per carry.

Trine returns home this Saturday, Sep. 10 for the home-opener against Bluffton. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be followed by a fireworks show outside of Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
