ANGOLA, Ind. -- Trine's Lamar Carswell has earned recognition on D3football.com's Team of the Week, the organization announced this morning.
Carswell (Toledo, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) had a career day in Saturday's 62-19 victory over Concordia (Ill.), rushing for 322 yards on just 23 carries. Carswell's effort was the most rushing yards in a game by a single player in NCAA Division III this year. The sophomore averaged 14 yards per carry and totaled three touchdowns on the day, including an electrifying 48-yard scamper for his final score. This is the first time Carswell has earned recognition from D3football.com.
The D3Football.com Team of the Week recognizes the top performances from NCAA Division III on a weekly basis. Players are nominated for consideration by sports information directors. The organization began selecting a Team of the Week in 1999.
In addition to his D3football.com honors, Carswell is a finalist for HERO Sports "HERO of the Week" honor. The award recognizes the top single-game performances of the week in Division III football. The winner of the award is determined by fan vote.

Saturday's performance moved Carswell into the national lead in rushing yards, rushing yards per game and yards per carry. He has totaled 772 yards this season, an average of 193 per contest. Carswell's average of 10.89 yards per carry leads the nation. He would set a new Division III record if he were to sustain an average of better than 8.96 yards per carry over the course of the season.
With three touchdowns Saturday, Carswell moved into a tie for third in the nation with nine rushing TDs. He also ranks sixth in the nation in scoring (14 points per game) and seventh in all-purpose yards per game (205).
Trine set new team records with 683 yards of total offense and 537 rushing yards in Saturday's 62-19 victory over Concordia. The Thunder scored 50 points in 15:10 of game action in the second half, including the final 42 points of the contest. The 62 points scored marked the fourth time Trine had topped 60 points in a game in team history and were tied for the third-highest mark in program history.

Trine opens MIAA play this Saturday at home against defending MIAA-Champion Albion. Kickoff in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
