Marcus Winters Selected to D3football.com Team of the Week

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University junior football player Marcus Winters (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) has been selected to this week's D3football.com "Team of the Week."  [D3football Team of the Week]

Winters recorded two interceptions, including a 29-yard return for a touchdown, as the Thunder defense posted a school single-game record six interceptions in the win against Concordia-Chicago on Saturday (Sept. 30).  He was one of two players in the game to have two INT's along with teammate Cayleel Hill (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills).  Both players are now tied for the team lead in interceptions with three each.

In addition to his two picks, Winters tallied three tackles (two solo and one assist) against the Cougars.

As a team, the Trine defense currently ranks eighth amongst all NCAA Division III schools in total defense allowing an average of 223.5 yards per game to its opponents.  The Thunder also rank in the top-25 in rushing defense (22nd) giving up an average of 80.5 yards on the ground per game.

Trine will begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Saturday, Oct. 7 when the Thunder travel to Albion, Mich. to take on Albion College.  The Thunder will be looking for their fifth straight win and begin the season 5-0 for the first time since 2010.
