Carswell Named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University senior running back Lamar Carswell (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) has been selected this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week" on offense.

Carswell played a big role in the Thunder's 35-25 win against Hope (Mich.) College over the weekend to claim their 14th straight regular-season win and seventh straight against MIAA opponents.  He recorded his second-consecutive 200-yard rushing game with an even 200 yards on 36 carries (5.6 yards per carry) and found the endzone four times.  Carswell scored the final two touchdowns of the game with Trine trailing, 25-21, en route to the 10-point victory.  He accounted for 200 of the team's 205 net rushing yards against the Flying Dutchmen.

It marked the second time in Carswell's career that he had four TD in a game and his ninth game of his career with three or more TD.  It was also his sixth game of 200 or more rushing yards all time.

For the season, Carswell currently leads all of NCAA Division III in rushing touchdowns with 12.  He is also third in the nation in both rushing yards with 736 and yards per game at 184.0.

In 32 career games, Carswell has accumulated 3,806 rushing yards and needs 362 more yards to become the program's all-time leading rusher.  He trails Barron Chambers (1995-98) who rushed for 4,167 yards during his career.

Trine will look to stay unbeaten when it hosts Alma (Mich.) College on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
