Washington Named MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University senior football player Simeon Washington (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football "Defensive Player of the Week."

This past weekend, Trine defeated Bluffton (Ohio) University, 35-20, to increase its early season record to 2-0 and also increased its regular-season win streak to 22 games.  

Individually, Washington helped led the defense by making 10 tackles (all solo) with four tackles for loss that included three quarterback sacks.  His three sacks put him in a tie for second for most sacks in a game in program history.  In addition, Washington was also credited with a forced fumble.  

Washington now has 205 total tackles for his career that includes seven games with 10 or more stops.  He has also racked up 26.5 tackles for loss with 10 sacks.  Washington has also forced two fumbles and also recovered a fumble during his career.

Trine will play its first home game of the season next Saturday, Sept. 21 when the Thunder host Concordia University-Wisconsin at Fred Zollner Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
