Dixon Named MIAA Player of the Week

FREELAND, MICH.-- Trine's Will Dixon has been named MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Dixon (Indianapolis, Ind./Zionsville) averaged 24 points and five assists per game in leading the Thunder to a 1-1 record last week. The sophomore was at his best in an 87-82 upset victory over no. 6 Ohio Wesleyan, tying a career-high with 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting, and adding five assists and three steals. He added 16 points and five assists in a 63-60 loss to North Park. Dixon shot 54 percent (19-of-35) from the field on the week, including a 6-of-14 (43 percent) effort from long-distance. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his Trine career.

Dixon has been a workhorse for the Thunder this season, averaging a conference-leading 32.4 minutes per game and ranking second in the MIAA in averaging 19.1 points per contest. The guard is shooting 50 percent from the field, including a 44 percent rate from three-point range. He is averaging a team-best 2.5 assists per game, and has a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Trine had a five-game winning-streak snapped this past Saturday at North Park. The Thunder are 5-3 on the season. According to the latest NCAA statistics report released last Thursday, Trine ranked second in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (8.4) and fourth in turnover margin (+8.9).

The Thunder return to action Monday, Dec. 29 in the Bill Sudeck Tournament at Case Western Reserve. Trine will face St. Vincent in their first of two games, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
