Dixon Named MIAA Player of the Week

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Will Dixon has been named MIAA Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Dixon (Indianapolis, Ind./Zionsville) averaged 24 points, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in leading the Thunder to two victories last week. The sophomore guard scored 21 points in a 62-47 victory over Calvin to pull Trine into a tie for first-place in the league. He followed that up with a 27-point performance on 12-of-19 shooting in a 66-56 win over Albion. Dixon's 19 second-half points helped the Thunder overcome a first-half deficit to improve to 5-1 in league play. He is is being honored as player of the week for the second time this season and the second time in his career.

After a solid debut last season, Dixon has vaulted into the ranks of the MIAA's best in his sophomore campaign. He leads the MIAA in scoring at 19.4 points per contest and has played more minutes than anyone in the league. The sophomore also leads the MIAA with 1.6 steals per game. Dixon is shooting 49.4 percent from the field, including 40 percent from three-point range. He has topped the 30-point mark in a game three times this season.

If the season ended today, Dixon's scoring clip would rank second in a season at Trine in the Division-III era. He already ranks seventh in scoring (715 points) at the school in the Division-III era, which dates back to the 2003-04 season. His career scoring average of 16.6 points per game trails only All-American Ian Jackson (2009-13) during that time frame.

Trine is off to a 5-1 start in conference play. The Thunder have won four-straight league games to push their overall record to 12-5.

The first half of conference play wraps up with a road trip to Olivet this Wednesday, Jan. 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
