ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine University Men's Basketball team once again spent its Thursday afternoons in the fall lending a helping hand at the Steuben County Humane Society.
For eight straight weeks the Thunder assisted in activities that ranged anywhere from walking dogs, to building beds, and even doing a little "scooping" or cleaning up at times. Coach Miller feels that working with the Humane Society has been as beneficial to the team as it has been for the dogs.
"This was something that we started our first year here at Trine and has really gained momentum within our program," said Miller. "It gives us a chance to see the men working together and embracing the opportunity to make a difference by helping prepare the animals for adoption."
Trine senior Jared Holmquist embodies Coach Miller's sentiments. "By walking the dogs and helping with the odd jobs around the shelter we help improve the lives of the shelter animals and that's what makes the time worthwhile," said Holmquist.
When asked to reflect on his experience volunteering at the Humane Society over the last four years, fellow senior Tarvis Malone said, "I feel that working at the Humane Society has brought me and my teammates closer to the Angola community."
The Thunder will soon turn their focus to the preparation of the upcoming season when it begins practice on October 18th.
The Trine men's basketball team is coming off a season in which the Thunder finished 17-9 overall and 10-4 in the MIAA. Trine will open the regular-season Monday, Nov. 16 at home against Heidelberg.
