Holmquist Locks Up Player of the Week Honors

FREELAND, Mich.-- For the third time this season, Trine's Jared Holmquist has been named the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Holmquist (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) led the Thunder to victories over Olivet and Albion to help Trine earn the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Tournament. The senior averaged 30.5 points in the two wins while knocking down 21-of-32 (65.6 percent) of his attempts from the field. Holmquist's 35-point performance in Saturday's victory over Albion on Senior Day was the sixth-highest scoring total on record in a game in team history. Holmquist has won six MIAA Player of the Week honors in his career.

The 2015-16 season has put the finishing touches on an outstanding career for Holmquist. He was recently named to the 2015-16 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team and will be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration. His other accolades this season include being named the DIII News Player of the Month for November and earning recognition on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week.

Entering this weekend's MIAA Tournament, Holmquist has totaled 1,491 career points. He ranks second in team history in blocked shots and third in rebounding. Trine will face regular-season MIAA Champion Hope the MIAA Semifinals this Saturday at Hope College. This will be the fourth-straight season the two teams have met in the conference tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
