Dixon Named MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week

FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine's Will Dixon has been named the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced today.

Dixon (Indianapolis, Ind. / Zionsville) was efficient in helping lead the Thunder to a 119-61 victory over Great Lakes Christian last week. The senior scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and knocked down two of his three attempts from three-point range. He also dished out five assists without committing a turnover and contributed defensively with four steals. The performance came in an effort that saw Trine score its sixth-most points and notch its fourth-best shooting percentage in a game in team history. This is Dixon's first Player of the Week honor this season and the fifth of his career.

A hot start to the season has seen Dixon average 21.7 points per game, the third-most in the MIAA. The senior has accomplished that feat with efficient shooting percentages across the board, knocking down 52.9 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 81.8 percent from the free throw line. He is also averaging a career-best 3.9 assists per game with a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. According to the most recent NCAA stats report (Dec. 8), Dixon ranked 24th in the nation in field goals made.

Dixon has totaled 1,447 points in his career on an average of 16.8 points per contest, the fifth-best scoring average in program history. The two-time All-MIAA performer ranks 10th in career field goals in team history. He has started 81 consecutive games dating back to his freshman season.

Trine owns a 4-3 record and will hit the road for a pair of challenging non-conference contests beginning this weekend. The Thunder will take on North Park, which owns a 6-1 record and was ranked No. 18 in the most-recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, Saturday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m.

Trine will then travel to Wisconsin Whitewater for an 8 p.m. contest Monday, Dec. 18. Whitewater was receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll and has a 7-0 record.
