Thunder Men Cruise Past Albion

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine men's basketball team defeated Albion, 78-49, in a MIAA conference game Wednesday night in Hershey Hall.

The Thunder was firing on all cylinders offensively, shooting 53.6 percent (30-of-56) from the field and 50 percent (10-of-20) from three-point range. This is the second straight game Trine's has connected on more than 50 percent of its attempts from the field. Will Dixon (Indianapolis, Ind. / Zionsville) took charge with 23 points and a career-high eight assists. Adison Daub (Corunna, Ind. / DeKalb) scored a career-high 20 points and knocked down six threes. Kyle Dodson (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) helped with the win with his 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Ellis Cummings (Ottawa Hills, Ohio / Ottawa Hills) led the defensive effort for the Thunder with a career-high six blocks, the second-most on record in a game in program history. Trine's defense held the Britons to a 36.5 percent (19-of-52) shooting effort from the field.

Albion's Jason Zahran and Jaylin Fordham leg the Britons with 10 points each.

The Thunder got a blistering shooting performance in the first half. Trine shot 59.3 percent (16-of-27) and 60 percent (6-of-10) from three. Towards the end of the first half the Thunder went on a 13-0 run over a span of four minutes. Dixon led the way in the first half with 13 points and Dodson added 10. Daub led Trine's three-point shooting with three makes, while Dodson added two. Trine led 40-26 over the Britons going into the second half.

In the second half, Albion cut Trine's lead to 12 twice, but each time the Thunder responded with a run of their own. Trine's defense held Albion to shooting 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from the floor. Daub knocked down three more treys in the second half to wrap up his career-best scoring effort.

Trine improved to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in the MIAA play.  Albion fell to 5-13 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

The Thunder return to action Saturday Jan. 28, when they travel to Calvin for a MIAA conference game.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
