Dixon Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District® Honors

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Trine's Will Dixon has been named to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, the organization announced today.

Dixon (Indianapolis, Ind. / Zionsville) was named First-Team Academic All-District 7, which encompasses schools in the states of Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Dixon advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Dixon has excelled in the classroom at Trine, carrying a 3.50 GPA in a demanding chemical engineering program. Dixon is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AiChE). He has volunteered with the Steuben County Humane Society and the Steuben County YMCA Challenger Basketball program. This season, he was named Trine's only team captain.

Four outstanding seasons have Dixon ranked among the most prolific scorers in program history. The senior is ranked sixth all-time in scoring with 1,710 career points, with a scoring average of 16.9 points per game that ranks fifth in team history. Dixon's career scoring output is ranked 10th among active players at the NCAA Division III level. He has shot 82.9 percent from the free throw line and knocked down 325 free throws, both of which rank eighth in program history.

In addition to his scoring ability, Dixon has been a productive player with his defense and passing. He led the MIAA in steals as a sophomore and is tied for sixth in team history with 154 career steals. Dixon also ranks ninth in program history with 290 career assists.

This season, Dixon leads the MIAA with a career-high 4.6 assists per game while sporting an efficient 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.  He is averaging a career-best 18.9 points per game, a mark that ranks fourth in the conference. Dixon also ranks third in the MIAA with 151 field goals made and is sixth in steals with an average of 1.4 per game.

Dixon's career accolades also include two All-MIAA First Team recognitions, five MIAA Player of the Week honors, recognition as the MVP of the 2015 Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational and a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. He has topped the 30-point mark in a game eight times in his career.

Trine owns an 11-11 overall record this season and sits in fourth place in the MIAA with a 6-5 mark in league action.
