ANGOLA, IND. -- Trine University men's basketball player Maurice Hunter (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week."
Hunter averaged 22 points per game and 12 rebounds per game in two contests this past week as the Thunder posted a 1-1 record in a pair of overtime matchups.
Trine began the week with an overtime victory against Alma (Mich.) College in which Hunter scored a season-best 27 points while shooting 66.7 percent from the floor. Hunter followed that performance with a 17-point effort against Hope that also saw him block six shots. He grabbed 12 rebounds in both games to post back-to-back double-doubles.
After 19 games, Hunter is averaging 11.4 ppg. and a team-best 6.2 rpg. He leads the team in offensive boards (47) and blocked shots with 24 which is also second highest in the conference.
Trine will wrap-up its three-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 31 when the Thunder take on Olivet (Mich.) College at the MTI Center. The two teams will square-off at 7:30 p.m.
