ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University men's basketball program would like to announce the addition of John Wysong and Zach Hurth as assistant coaches. These two individuals bring exceptional qualities that will help fill the void left by former longtime Thunder Assistant Coach Doug Williams and Coach Rob Metry.
"We are very thankful for the seven exceptional years of service from Coach Williams and are excited to be having his son Bryce join our program this fall as an incoming freshman," said Trine Head Coach Brooks Miller. "Both Coach Williams and Coach Metry will be missed but we feel that the addition of John and Zach will keep the program moving forward."
Coach Wysong graduated from Tri-State University in 1976 and was the captain of Coach Mark Peterman's 1975 Hall of Fame team that won the conference championship as well as a NAIA State Title. Wysong led that Hall of Fame squad in both scoring and assists.
"We are more than happy to welcome Coach Wysong back to Trine," stated Coach Miller. "His experience as a former college assistant and as a head coach in high school will pay huge dividends for our student-athlete's success both on and off the basketball court."
John began his coaching career at Trine, formerly Tri-State, in 1976 as an assistant coach for Coach Peterman. He also worked at Grace College in a similar role but experienced significant success as a head coach at the high school level amassing 325 wins. Those wins include five conference titles, five sectional crowns, two regional championships, a semi-state victory, and a Great-Eight finish in the Indiana one-class system.
Zach Hurth joins the Thunder coaching staff after completing his Master's degree from Aquinas College where he served as a graduate assistant coach the past two seasons. Coach Hurth is no stranger to MIAA competition having played an instrumental role as a four-year letter winner at Albion College where he earned his undergraduate degree in 2015. Zach was a two-year captain for the Britons under Head Coach Jody May and finished his career in the top-ten for most minutes played.
"Zach's MIAA playing experience will play a significant role in the development of our young men and will also assist in our ability to find the right fit when it comes to the recruitment of future student-athletes here at Trine," added Miller.
Both Coach Wysong and Coach Hurth will add value to a program that has finished in the top-four of the MIAA standings and made seven-straight MIAA Tournament appearances.
