Pete Smith Named MIAA Men's Basketball "Player of the Week"

FREELAND, MICH.  --  Senior Trine University men's basketball player, Pete Smith (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week."

Smith helped lead Trine to a convincing win against Manchester University in its only action this past week.  Smith was one of three Thunder players to score in double figures against the Spartans with a game and season-high 21 points.

Smith connected on five three-pointers for 15 of his 21 points and shot eight-of-13 overall from the field (61.5 percent) for the game.  He also had five rebounds, two assists and three steals.  

It marked the second game this season that Smith has scored 20 or more points and has recorded 15 or more points in all but one game played so far this year.  Overall, Smith leads Trine in scoring at 17.8 points per game and is shooting 53.2 percent (33-of-62) overall from the field, including 44.7 percent (17-of-38) from three-point range.  He has been averaging 4.2 rebounds per game and is fourth on the team in assists with 12.  Defensively, Smith is tied for the team lead in steals with eight.

Trine will host Great Lakes Christian College on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the MTI Center as part of a basketball doubleheader with the Thunder women's team.  The men will take on GLCC at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the Trine women against Kalamazoo (Mich.) College at 8 p.m.
