Cox Earns MIAA Player of the Week Honors

FREELAND, MICH.  --  Trine University sophomore men's basketball player Brent Cox (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week."

Cox scored a career-high 23 points in Trine's only action last week and helped lead the Thunder to a 73-67 win against Hope (Mich.) College to remain unbeaten this season.  Cox scored his game and career-high 23 points on 50.0 percent shooting (eight-of-16), aided by a seven-of-10 effort (70.0 percent) at the free-throw line.  He also went on to grab a team-tying high six rebounds.

Through 13 games, Cox is second on the team in scoring and is one of three Trine players to average in double figures.  He is currently averaging 13.5 points per game while shooting 49.3 percent (67-of-136) from the field.  He leads the team in rebounding with a 5.2 boards per game and is second in blocked shots with eight.  Additionally, he has tallied 17 assists and 12 steals.

Trine is scheduled to host Albion (Mich.) College next Saturday, Feb. 27 in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game at the MTI Center.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
